NEWS! 2012 will be our first year as an affiliated running club, as we have been officially approved by England Athletics. Members will now be able to officially race for the club and receive the benefits of being an affiliated member.
Skegness is a beautiful place to run all year round, whether to enjoy the isolation of the frozen boating lake in the Winter or to feel the coastal breeze along the beachside paths in the Summer. A run in our area can take in quiet rural roads or the bustling town centre and parks. We formed The Skegness Coasters as a way of bringing people together in a fun and casual way but with the aim of getting outdoors and helping us to keep fit!
Come along and join us on a Tuesday evening at 6.30pm at The Welcome Inn in Skegness and we'll do everything we can to ensure that you have somebody to run with and we'll find a route that will be suitable for you, whether you regularly run races or have just bought your first pair of trainers and would like to walk a mile or so. We both remember what is was like the day we went out for our first run in the area, so let us help you to make a start too! Since we started in April 2010, we have been steadily growing but have managed to keep a friendly informal feel to the group, making sure that we are as welcoming as possible to new members. We have been represented at a wide range of races including the Great North Run in 2011 but also in 10ks and half marathons in Lincolnshire and all over the country.
A typical Tuesday session might look like this:
Neil and his group run for up to 7.5 miles, perhaps including speed intervals of between 1 and 2 minutes on the way back to increase speed endurance. At the same time another group will run between 5 and 5.5 miles in 50 minutes or so, then other small groups may run or walk/jog distances between 3.5 and 5 miles in the same amount of time. Nobody runs alone!
We also meet on most Sundays for our long runs and these have included cross-country and beach runs to keep as much variety as possible.
